Act on Denmark's international development cooperation

Denmark's development assistance is based upon and administered according to the Danish Act on International Development Cooperation. The act came into force on 1st January 2013. 

The act presents an enhanced focus on human rights and sustainable growth which henceforward constitute the foundation for Denmark's development cooperation.

Furthermore, the Act states that Danish development cooperation aims to fight poverty, promote human rights, democracy, sustainable development, peace and stability in accordance with the UN treaty.

The Act on International Development Cooperation has been amended twice since its adoption. The first amendment (Act no. 1464 of 17/12/2013) came into force on 1st January 2014, and the second amendment (Act no. 1741 of 27/12/2016) on 1st January 2017.
